The special event, which took place on Saturday, March 14, saw the acclaimed Leyland Band perform the film’s score live on stage while the beloved animated film was shown on a large screen.

How did the day go?

Families were transported into the classic story as the band brought the film’s music vividly to life, creating an immersive concert experience for audiences of all ages.

Many children in attendance were experiencing a live concert for the very first time.

Adding to the occasion, the performance was conducted by the film’s Oscar-nominated composer, Stuart Hancock, who travelled to Preston to conduct the premiere.

The day was packed with family moments, with the Bear himself making a special appearance after the show.

A long queue of excited children waited to meet the character and pose for photos, while others joined in learning the actions to the film’s closing song Me & You (written by George Ezra).

What has been said about the event?

Conductor Stuart Hancock praised the performance and the band’s collaboration, saying: “What an absolutely glorious few days I’ve had bringing to life the new brass band arrangement of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

“The Leyland Band are world-class and totally nailed it. I’m now an honorary brass-bander and hope there’ll be many more brass band Bear Hunts in the future.”

Dan Moore, Chairperson of Leyland Band added:“Turning We’re Going on a Bear Hunt LIVE from an idea into an incredible show was absolutely worth all the time we put into it.

“It was a real pleasure to work with film composer Stuart Hancock to deliver this world premiere.

“Seeing so many families enjoying themselves - and many children experiencing a concert for the first time - made it incredibly special.”

Can we expect any more events like this?

Following the successful premiere, the production will now begin touring across the region, with the next performance taking place at Foundry Community Church in Widnes on Saturday 18th April.

Further Lancashire dates are planned throughout 2026, with additional performances across the UK expected in 2027.

The project also follows the success of previous live film collaborations by Leyland Band, The Snowman and Wallace & Gromit, continuing the band’s ambition to bring creative musical experiences to communities across the North West and beyond.
