Tomcat from Lancashire hitchhiked up north in back of van as Cumbria vet tries to find owner

They say that the homing instinct of cats means they can usually find their way back home - but this wasn't the case for a stray cat from Lancashire yesterday.

In an unusual turn of events, the black stray tomcat, thought to be from Lancashire, had snuck its way into the back of a van that was owned by a man working in the area.

The driver, who was working between Lancaster, Preston and Chorley kept the cat safe before taking it to the Falcon Veterinary group this morning, where is is currently being cared for as staff try to track down the owner on social media.

Jeanette Hudson, receptionist at the London Road Veterinary clinic said: "All we know is that he is an adult black neutered cat but he has not been microchipped, so it is very hard to find out who the owner is.

"A local person had been working in Lancaster, Preston and Chorley and had discovered the cat in the van. He brought it into us this morning and we have taken him in. That is all we know at the moment."

It is though that the cat had climbed into the back of the van whilst he was working and went unnoticed until he had reached Carlisle.

The vets are now eager to return the stray to the owner, thought to live in the Preston or Chorley area.
