Lancashire Police is recruiting more officers to its force and ahead of the application closing date this Sunday, two of Blackpool's police officers talked about their jobs.

Student PC Katie Shaw, 25, and her tutor PC Karis Crowle, 29, are based at Blackpool’s West Division Headquarters.

Katie, from Thornton, was a Grange Park PCSO for five years and was accepted on the police apprenticeship program in February.

“There is a wide range of jobs I’ve been to including a sudden death, domestic assault, police assault and a public order incident, so I have had a wide range of incidents already so I think that what is definitely unique about the job.”

Karis, from South Shore, has been with the police for four years and previously worked at Manchester Airport.

She said: “There is always something different on every shift and no domestic violence case is the same.

“It’s a very challenging job at times but I also find it very rewarding as well.”

Lancashire Police is currently recruiting for police constables across the county as part of the degree holder entry programme.

A spokesman for the force said: "All new police constables at Lancashire Police spend their first two years working on emergency response. During that time they will find themselves providing a police presence in town centres on a Friday night, responding to domestic violence incidents and helping people who are going through a mental health crisis.

"It's a 24/7 service so it means officers will be providing support around the clock including weekends and during the holidays. Lots of police officers thrive off the fast paced business of responding to emergencies and stay in 'response' for many years. Others find a different area that interests them and go on to specialise such as supporting victims of abuse, solving serious crimes and working in counter terrorism.

"Whatever you choose, you’ll have a full training programme to get you started. We also offer defined pathways to help you to meet your career goals."

To apply for one of the roles go to www.lancashire.police.uk/join-us/ and for further information email the recruitment team via [email protected]. the closing date is this Sunday.
