Preston murder: Victim named as Preston teen appears in court charged with murder

A teenager appeared before a judge at court on Monday morning (July 11) charged with the murder of a 27-year-old man.

The victim, who died last Friday (July 8) after suffering serious stab wounds to his chest, has now been named as Hiwa Saleh Ali Khani.

A 16-year-old boy appeared in court on Monday charged with his murder

He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody.

What happened on Raikes Road in Preston?

Police were called around 6.25pm on Friday to Raikes Road after a report of an assault.

Paramedics and officers attended the scene and found the 27-year-old man from Preston with stab wounds to the chest. He died later in hospital.

A 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court on Monday. He was remanded in custody until Tuesday.

A number of people were also arrested on suspicion of murder. Another teenage boy, also 16, from Preston has been bailed to September 3, with two girls, aged 15 and 16, both from Preston, bailed to August 5.A further teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The 17 year old, from Preston, is now in custody.

Det Chief Insp Mark Haworth-Oates, of Lancashire Police’s Force Major Investigation Team, said: “Firstly, I wish to express my deepest condolences to the man's family and friends. This is an utterly tragic and heart-breaking incident and my thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.“I would urge any witnesses, who have yet to speak to police, to come forward and tell us what they know.

“This is the second fatal stabbing in Preston in the last month and I understand that people in the local community may be concerned. “These two offences are not linked but the outcome is that two families in Preston have now been left devastated by the impact of knife crime. I would urge to anyone thinking about carrying a knife to seriously consider the consequences – you could end up jailed, injured or killed.
