Morecambe eats out to help out foodbank

A Morecambe restaurant raised £3,345.12 to help local families in need through donating some of the money it received from the Eat Out to Help Out scheme to Morecambe Bay Foodbank..

Soul Bowl and Vista Italian restaurant in Morecambe said that the amount raised which was donated equates to 1650 family meals.

Scott Robson, finance director of Soul Bowl’s parent company, JET Ltd, said: “Since re-opening in July we have been blown away by the support the people of Morecambe have shown us, and we are just pleased to be able to give something back.

"It’s no secret that this year has hit the hospitality and leisure industry hard and for most businesses it has been a time of uncertainty – but we know that for many people in our community the struggle is much graver.

Morecambe Bay Foodbank manager, Annette Smith, said “Myself and the Foodbank volunteers and staff were over the moon and totally surprised at the vast amount of money that the staff were able to raise in such a short amount of time. It was a real pleasure to meet them and discuss how they have made a difference.”

According to The Trussell Trust, the North West receives the highest number of food bank parcels in the UK.

Morecambe Bay Foodbank provides a lifeline to hundreds of local families, having already provided over 11,000 emergency food parcels during the pandemic this year – with demand expected to increase into the winter months.
