The force prepared a file for HM Coroner and an inquest into the man's death was opened and adjourned at Preston Coroners' Court yesterday (Thursday, May 14).

The man has now been named as 54-year-old Mark Wishart from Chorley, who lived in Yarrow Road.

Senior Coroner Chris Long said: "I have an application to open an inquest into the death of Mark Wishart. The evidence suggests that Mr Wishart died as a consequence of injuries sustained when he was struck by a train.

"In the circumstances I will open an inquest into the death as there is evidence to suggest that the cause of death was unnatural."

He added Mr Wishart was a cleaner at the time of his death and his body was identified using his fingerprints.

A final inquest will be held on September 2.
