The evening featured a curated programme of exceptional short films from across the independent circuit, followed by a lively panel discussion with filmmakers from Preston, Poulton, Blackpool and Fleetwood — showcasing the depth of talent emerging across Lancashire.
Festival Director Ed Greenberg and Malcolm Riedlinger, Area Operations Manager at The Arc Cinema, opened the event, welcoming a full auditorium of film lovers, creatives and community supporters.
He said: “Tonight showed exactly why Lancashire needs a festival like Firestorm. The energy in the room, the quality of the films, and the passion of our local filmmakers made it clear that this region is ready for a year‑round celebration of independent cinema.”
The launch also unveiled a major new initiative: a free submission category for Lancashire‑based filmmakers, designed to support emerging talent and give local creatives meaningful pathways into exhibition.
Selected films from this category may be screened at Firestorm’s monthly events, included in the main festival programme, or even shown before mainstream features as part of The Arc Cinema’s regular programming.
Firestorm also announced that monthly screenings will now take place at The Arc Cinema Preston on the last Friday of every month, offering audiences regular access to bold shorts, standout features and filmmaker Q&As.
The festival will culminate in a four‑day celebration of independent cinema when the first full Lancashire Firestorm Film Festival takes place next February.
