The 'Free Palestine' demonstration in Preston Flag Market was one of many taking place worldwide, from London to Syndey, today. At least 227 Palestinians and 12 Israelis have been killed in the Gaza region since fighting began on May 10. A ceasefire was agreed to on Friday.

Ismail Timol, from the campaigning group Children of the Ghetto, said: "The Palestine issue and the injustices there are close to a lot of people's hearts. When people turned up and the march started, we were taken aback by how many there were."

"The people of Preston are always united when they see injustice, and unfortunately we have seen the very worst injustice in Palestine, what can only be described as a massacre of many innocent people, including elderly people, women and children."

"It is completely unjustifiable. This is why Palestine is close to so many people, not only to the people of Preston, but all over the world."

Preston MP Sir Mark Hendrick has written to the Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to express his concerns about the violence in Gaza. Lancaster and Fleetwood MP Cat Smith attended the rally.
