There are many international sports stars who have their roots in the area, and here is our own small tribute to just some of the well-known sporting names we can call our own.
9. Isaac Lowe

10. Dave Chisnall
Professional darts player Dave Chisnall was born in St Helens but has lived in Morecambe for many years. He met his wife Michaela, who also plays darts, at the St Anne's Open in 2008 and they married on January 14 2017 in Morecambe. Photo: Donna Clifford
11. Ray Charnley
Born in Lancaster, centre forward Ray Charnley was one of the most prolific scorers for Blackpool, with whom he spent 10 years, becoming the third-highest scorer in their history, behind Jimmy Hampson and Stan Mortensen. In a playing career spanning 18 years, Charnley also played for Morecambe (with whom he began and ended his career), Preston North End, Wrexham and Bradford Park Avenue. He scored a total of 293 career league goals in 605 games. He also won one England cap, in 1962. Charnley passed away in November 2009, aged 74. Photo: submit
12. Ryan Croasdale
Ryan Croasdale (pictured left) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Stockport County. Born in Lancaster, the 28-year-old began his career with Preston North End, and won the FA Trophy with AFC Fylde in 2019. Photo: Clive Brunskill/PA Wire
