Heartwarming scenes as Leyland pupils give departing Worden Academy headteacher 'guard of honour'
“Goodbye and good luck Mr Hammersley...”
Pupils at Worden Academy came together to give their headteacher a rousing ‘guard of honour’ as he left the school after 18 years.
Alan Hammersley departed the school on May 22 and his students honoured him with a stirring farewell which was captured on camera.

It was a heart-warming scene as he walked out of the school doors for a final time, with the beloved teacher and school leader met by hundreds of students clapping and cheering, as a delighted Mr Hammersley high-fived the youngsters.
Worden Academy paid tribute to Alan Hammersley’s dedication to the school, which he was appointed to lead in April 2020 following the retirement of former head Chris Catterall.

Following Alan Hammersley’s departure, former deputy headteacher Paul Cairns has been appointed to lead the school.
Maureen Woodall, Chair of Governors at Worden Academy, said: "It has been my privilege to work alongside him for the last 18 years, six of them as headteacher.
“On behalf of the governing body, I want to publicly thank him for his dedication and contribution to the on-going success of Academy @ Worden and wish him well for the future.
“I also want to extend a very warm welcome to our new headteacher Mr Paul Cairns who was previously deputy headteacher at Worden for four years and is now ready to write a new chapter in the history of Worden."
