Jean Fisher has written a series of 11 books named The 10Tickers with her son Ian, who was born in Preston.

The project has been ongoing for 12 years, making it even more special when Ian surprised his mum with the first hard copies of the books on her 90th birthday.

Jean said: “I experienced an overwhelming sense of pride that my son had worked so hard and persevered for so long and had produced books that are stimulating and apt for young children.”

She also enjoyed personalised 10Tickers wine and chocolate, gifted by the books’ illustrator Emma Knowles.

Born on June 23 in 1930, Jean is a retired head teacher, university and PGCE lecturer, and Ofsted Inspector.

Meanwhile, Ian is a former maths teacher who set up the award-winning maths resource website, 10Ticks, 20 years ago.

Together, the pair have more than 100 years combined experience in the education sector.

Commenting on the launch, Ian Fisher said: “Writing the books with my mother has been a great learning and bonding experience for us both.

“Being able to celebrate her 90th birthday with her is a blessing on its own, let alone being able to present her with the first hard copy of the book to honour her hard work on the project.”

The series, written under the pseudonym Jik, has been designed for three to five-year-olds and covers key areas of the early years curriculum.

The books have QR codes hidden throughout, which lead to online games and activities.
