Bygone Times, an antique and collectibles retailer, has donated a sizable amount of food to Moss Side Community Forum, with furloughed staff volunteering to help and hand deliver the stock earlier this week.

The Moss Side Community Forum team, based at the community centre just off Dunkirk Lane, has been working hard to provide meals and everyday essentials, such as bread, milk, eggs and fresh fruit and vegetables, to those struggling due to the coronavirus crisis.

The food bank’s temporary shop, which is run by volunteers, gives families a chance to pop in for essentials and only provide a small monetary donation if they can afford to do so. The team is also delivering parcels to vulnerable people who are self-isolating.

Georgina Rodgers, a Farrington resident and former pupil at Moss Side Primary School, is running the initiative.

Georgina said: “Moss Side has always played a massive part in my life as it has for everyone else here too. This is why we want to help in any way we can as it’s obviously been a very worrying time for many families.

“We honestly can’t thank Paul and the team at Bygone Times enough. A donation of this size will provide support to dozens of families who need a helping hand right now. I just wish I could have at least shaken his hand! All I can say is a big thank you.”

Moss Side has split the food with New Day Church Foodbank in Lostock Hall, as the two hubs are currently coordinating efforts to ensure nobody goes without.

Paul Hamlet, general manager at Bygone Times, said: “Bygone Times is famous as an antiques and collectables centre but we’d like to think we’re also known for our sense of community. We’re sorry that these services need to exist but so thankful that they do when they are currently required by so many families. We’re pleased that we’ve been able to support in this small way. Our thanks go to Moss Side Community Forum and countless other organisations like them for everything they’re doing throughout this crisis.”
