Motown legend Diana Ross, due to top the bill at the event's opening night on June 30, has posted on social media that she won't be touring for a year.

The ex-Supremes star, who turns 77 next month, said in a Facebook post: "It seems it will be another year before I am able to tour again.

"I just completed singing 14 new songs. 'Thank you' for your love and appreciation. Coming soon."

A spokesman for Lytham Festival said: “We are aware of a social media post from Ms Ross and are currently in talks with her management team. We will update our customers as soon as we are in a position to do so.”

The Ross post came just over 24 hours after Prime Minister Boris Johnson's four-stage road map out of lockdown offered hope that the event on Lytham Green, cancelled last year because of the pandemic, would go ahead this time.

“We, of course, continue to execute our plans so we can operate within full Government guidelines and we are working through the finer details with all artists and agencies involved.”

The other headliners set for Lytham this summer are another former Motown star Lionel Richie, 80s band Duran Duran, singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi and Scottish band Snow Patrol.
