Chris Scott, 47, from Fleetwood, has been a fishmonger at Neve Fleetwood for the past nine years, and was used to sorting through shipments of lobsters, which are supplied to restaurants and hotels.

But when 400 of the shellfish came in from Canada on Tuesday, he noticed that one of them was a strange colour - bright orange, instead of the usual blue-grey.

As he had never seen an orange lobster in over 30 years in the fishing industry, he decided to put it in its own tank while he researched it.

Chris was shocked to find that the orange shell only occurred in one in every 10 million Canadian lobsters.

He said: "I've never seen anything like it before. I noticed an orange claw, which is unusual, unless they're cooked of course.

"When I had a look on Google it said one in every 10 million to 30 million lobsters were this colour, so it was very rare.

"One of my colleague's brothers works at the Sealife Centre and he suggested we take it to live there."

The lobster, lovingly nicknamed "Clawdia," is now thought to have a home in quarantine at Blackpool Sea Life Centre after travelling thousands of miles across the sea.

The Sea Life Centre was also contacted for a comment.
