Chorley teens help save life of woman after chance meeting in town centre

Two teenagers have been commended for their quick-thinking actions which saved a woman's life.

Alfie Goodwin, 17, and Hannah Borer 18, who are both Young Leaders at Inspire Chorley Youth Zone, were walking home from their evening session when they were approached by a women in significant distress at a nearby bus stop.

While talking to the woman, they noticed the women had potentially life threatening injuries.

Despite their own shock and a plea from the women not to contact 999, they contacted emergency services and sought help from a passer-by.

Police officers and paramedics quickly arrived in the town centre where they attended to the woman and her injuries. There had previously been concerns for her safety.

Sergeant Paul Harrison from Chorley Police said: “Hannah and Alfie’s swift actions and ability to stay calm during an incredibly distressing situation helped save this female’s life. We are pleased to confirm the lady in question is now safe and receiving the vital support she needs.

“We would like to thank personally Alfie and Hannah for their heroic actions, without their intervention the outcome may have sadly been very different.

"It is incredibly important for us to praise the young people who go out of their way to support the Chorley community. Alfie and Hannah’s actions are a fantastic example of this.”

Echoing Chorley Police’s commendation, CEO for Inspire Youth Zone Janine Blythe said: “We are all incredibly proud of Alfie and Hannah or their quick-thinking.

“Throughout their time at Inspire, it has been our privilege to see them grow and mature into fantastic young role models and their latest actions are testament to this. They are both true local heroes and richly deserve to be praised for their incredible actions.”
