Chorley Mayor Councillor Julia Berry has been forced to cancel the Mayoral Parade set to take place this weekend after testing positive for Covid.

Expressing her sadness, she said: "It's with regret that the Mayoral Parade set for this weekend cannot go ahead. While I was greatly looking forward to the parade and meeting with members of the community, I have recently tested positive for Covid-19 and feeling very unwell.

"As I hope you will all understand, the safety of all involved is paramount and given the circumstances, the best course of action is to postpone the parade.”

She added that they were looking at alternative arrangements for the event and would keep the public updated.

She was installed as the borough’s first citizen at a meeting of Chorley Council in May.

At the time she told the Post she would use her time in office to advance the “empowerment of women and girls”.
