Bronze statue of comedian Eric Morecambe unveiled by the Queen and Prince Philip in 1999

The Queen and Prince Philip visited Morecambe in 1999 to unveil a bronze statue of comedian Eric Morecambe on the promenade.

Eric Morecambe who died in 1984 remains a household name for his comic partnership with Ernie Wise.

Crowds lined the promenade and streets of Morecambe waving flags to welcome the Queen and Prince Philip as they arrived.

Prince Philip died today at the age of 99.
