Bank holiday weekend Chorley charity gig for fur-legged friends

A charity night featuring English actor and comedian Bobby Davro will be held in Chorley Town Hall on Sunday, August 28.

The event, which will be held in the Lancastrian Suite and organised by managing director of Crown Stage and Theatre Services Ltd in Whittle-le-Woods Alex Owen, will be in aid of UK-based charity Dogs for Good.

Previously called Dogs for the Disabled, Dogs for Good uses training dogs to assist adults and children with physical and learning disabilities, children with autism and adults with dementia.

Explaining why he chose this particular charity, Alex said: "My wife Olwyn who is 70 has had multiple sclerosis since 1997 and has had Tilly her assistance dog for nine years.

"Until she received Tilly by Toyah Wilcox she had no confidence and didn't want to go out anywhere.

"Tilly totally changed her life and, not only is she her companion at home, but when she goes out Tilly helps her with all her needs such as going shopping and getting things off the shelves.

"My wife has been given back a sense of freedom and independence.

"They are truly amazing dogs and that change disabled people's lives and giving them their independence back.

"Monies raised will be going to those fabulous assistance dogs that change peoples lives."Alex, who runs numerous charity gigs every year, added: "Bobby has performed twice for me for Dogs for Good charity nights and has always been willing to perform for these events so it's a coup to get him back to Chorley to appear once again for as he still one of the best comedians in Britain.

"I do at least four to six events a year for Dogs For Good and pay for these events myself to raise as much as possible for these special dogs.

"We have had Toyah Wilcox and Jimmy Cricket who presented Olwyn with Tilly after appearing at a Lytham Festival."

Queen Tribute Band The Freddie and Queen experience will also be performing on the night as will former X Factor contestant and member of boy band Phixx Nikk Mager.

The event will run from 7.30pm until midnight and tickets are priced at £12.50.
