Despite galleries being closed to the public, organisers hope the Harris Open 2021 will reach wider audiences with a filmed virtual tour of the exhibition available to view online.

Captured on film in the top floor galleries, the film will show work from artists and makers of all ages and backgrounds on display.

Some of the work is for sale and people can view the catalogue online to see details of the individual artists and makers’ work and artwork prices.

Coun Peter Kelly, executive member for culture and leisure at Preston City Council said: “For over 70 years the Harris Open has been one of our most loved exhibitions showcasing local artists.

“The Harris would like to thank all the artists and makers who have submitted work under difficult circumstances and who have made this year’s Harris Open extra special.

“Our panel of judges will be choosing four prize winners. There is also a prize for the artwork voted the public’s favourite. The Harris would also like to thank Stowe Family Law who has very kindly sponsored this year’s prizes.”

Tim Joel, head of culture at the Harris said: “It’s fantastic to be able to present the annual Harris Open, albeit online for the first time since the exhibition began.

“The open has always held a dear place in my heart and more so this year as we have faced the unprecedented challenges of Covid.

“But the people of Preston have shown great tenacity, determination and creativity, creating over 250 works of art. What better way to demonstrate the role of arts and culture in improving our wellbeing, demonstrating creativity and the diversity of our great city.

“Thank you to all the artists and staff who have worked to keep the show on the road and ensure Harris Open remains open for you to enjoy.”

Winners will be announced at a later date.
