Warning issued after 3 deaths in Lancaster and Morecambe from contaminated heroin
A warning has been issued to drug users about a contaminated batch of heroin which could cause a fatal overdose.
Lancashire Drug Alert Panel and Inspire Lancashire said there have been three drug-related deaths in the Lancaster and Morecambe area in the last 10 days associated with the contaminated heroin.

A poster issued by the Lancashire Drug Alert Panel on January 23 said: “Lab tests on drugs found at the scene of one death have detected heroin contaminated with nitazenes — extremely strong synthetic opioids.
“The local drug market is more dangerous than ever.
"Synthetic opioids like Nitazene and Fentanyl along with the animal sedatives Xylazine and Medetomidine are unwanted contaminants added to poor quality heroin and fake prescription drugs.
"Street drugs contaminated with Nitazenes are more likely to lead to fatal overdose.
“If you or someone you know needs Naloxone, drug testing advice, support or treatment call 08081 698 673 or email [email protected].”
Lancashire Police were approached for comment but said they didn’t wish to make one at this time.
