The event was such a hit, raising £160 for the library and pulling in a crowd of about 100 people, that organisers want to host it again.

Emmeline Pidgen of the Friends of Chorley Library said: “The atmosphere was wonderful, and we had so much feedback from guests throughout the night telling us that this is exactly the sort of event they’d been looking for in Chorley, but could never find before.

“One chap even said it was his very first visit to the library, even after living in area for almost seventy years.”

Neo-folk musicians, singer-songwriters, and avant garde poets entertained the packed library.

For those at home, performances were live-streamed through the Friends of Chorley Library Twitter account.

The next open mic is planned for July 1.
