New entrance planned for popular Leyland park

Four major schemes announced by South Ribble Council are set to be completed as early as this autumn.

They include building a grand new entrance, de-silting the dried-up duck pond and creating a new dipping platform, improvements to the existing car park, and the unveiling of 160 new parking spaces on a new overflow area.

Some of the proposals were born out of a 20-year plan, particularly the pond work and upgrading the entrance.

The proposals for the new Worden Lane car park entrance will see it relocated to be opposite the junction with Vicarsfield Road – improving visibility for traffic leaving the park. There will also be two new gated pedestrian entrances either side of the gates, and a pathway that will lead into the 150-acre site so that pedestrians don’t have to cross the busy car park.

South Ribble Council’s decabinet member with responsibility for street scene, Coun Peter Mullineaux, said: “Worden Park is the proud jewel in Leyland’s crown and quite rightly so.

“More than 250,000 people come every year to visit the park and its many attractions and there’s no doubt it’s an exciting time with more than £300,000 being pledged for improvements.”
