Colourful pictures from 25th Lancaster festive fun run which was race for all ages

The special 25th edition of the Lancaster & Morecambe Athletic Club’s popular 4k festive fun run went ahead despite the frost this year.

With a frost on the ground and some slippery patches, the route was slightly different from previous years – but it was lucky it went ahead with both local park runs cancelled earlier in the day.

There were 237 runners, much the same as in previous years, including 40+ registering on the day.

There was a great atmosphere with many families and children taking part and lots running in festive gear.

Runners ranged from children as young as five up to a number of over 70-year-olds. Truly a race for all ages.

It was especially encouraging to see 40 members of Lancaster & Morecambe AC (LMAC) taking part, some with their children or grandchildren.

With a flat route it wasn’t a surprise that the top runners completed the course very quickly with the winner being Junior Will Wareing of local LMAC crossing the line after only 11 minutes 2 seconds.

Not far behind were two family members of Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde AC Junior Theo Minns (11:46) and Luke Minns MV35 (11:47).

The women’s winner, in a great time of 12.30 coming in overall seventh place, was Santa Rummiece also of LMAC.

She was followed by Emily Simm of Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde AC in 13.11 and in third place was Rebecca Willmott of Vegan, FV35 in 13.50.

For most runners the finishing time wasn’t an issue - the fun run was just that, fun with a great festive medal at the end.

And the huge number of spot prizes and vouchers was much appreciated by all finishers at the end.

The main sponsors this year were Asda, Morecambe; Blacks Fish ‘n Chips, Halton; Body Shop, Lancaster; DC Wilson Garages, Lancaster & Forton; Lancaster Brewery; Louise Goddard Fitness; Morrisons, Morecambe; Pete Bland Sports, Kendal; Robert Gordon James Hairdressers, Lancaster; Rowan Wood Massage Therapy, Lancaster; Runners Centre, Lancaster; Salt Ayre Leisure Centre; Scholls Chiropody Clinic, Lancaster and Tesco Carnforth.

Thanks a lot to the run’s main organiser Steve Perry assisted by Susan Lucas, Angus Murray, Christine Perry, Richard Jones, Liz Smith, Debs Bunting, Catherine Douglas and Jack Husband plus a number of friendly club marshals on the course.
