Karen Boyes, of Hoghton, and her daughters, Sarah, 19, and Keira, 13, rallied round 51 others to take part in the 21-mile challenge to honour Stephen Boyes, who died of a brain tumour in 2014, aged 52.

All money raised will go towards St Catherine’s Hospice, which supported Stephen and his family.

Karen, who owns Tease Cafe, in Longridge, said: “This is the third year we have done this for St Catherine’s Hospice. We wanted to do something to give back for the support we received when Stephen passed away.“We thought it would be a nice way to remember him. It was a happy occasion, rather than sad.“Sarah even came back from university for the weekend to complete the ride. My youngest son, Sam, 21, drove the car in support and my eldest son, Joe, was away but has been very supportive.“It was a fantastic day. We had lots of people there. It was a really big family occasion.”

Karen, 51, is still collecting money, but so far donations have reached more than £1,000.She added: “It is quite exciting as we don’t know how much we have raised yet. This is something we will continue every year. We are hoping next year’s event will be even bigger as it will mark the fifth anniversary of Stephen’s passing.”
