Mistreated dog Cleo still in RSPCA Preston care months later and looking for her forever family

An RSPCA dog named Cleo who was found emaciated is still sadly waiting on her forever home months later.

Cleo has been with the Preston branch now for along time. She is decribed as a “very delicate little flower” who has had quite a difficult life in her short five years, and this has left her with a loss of confidence.

A spokeperson for the RSPCA said: “The most beautiful thing about dogs is that they always want to see the best in people and Cleo is a prime example of this.

“Now she is surrounded by kind and loving humans, and she is learning how trust again, Cleo is starting to grow and repair from all her previous pain and mistreatment.”

Cleo was emaciated when she arrived in RSPCA care at a shocking 20.5kg, this meant she needed to almost double her body weight to reach her optimum weight of 35kg.

This beautiful lady is the sweetest and most precious pooch who absolutely loves napping and will happily spend most of her day snuggled up next to her favourite people on a sofa or bed.

She is very well mannered and you only need to ask her to do something once and she will do it straight away, she is always wanting to please her people.

Cleo knows basic commands and has played with toys but prefers human company, she settles well in areas and loves using a wobble kong to play with and get her treats from, she will spend ages with these so may be a useful addition to have in her future home.

The RSPCA spokesperson added: “This softy is learning how to have fun, she will have little spurts of fun and then she may suddenly stop as she seems to think she has done wrong so a lot of living with Cleo is reassuring her she is not in trouble, and she is safe.

“Cleo is a dream in the home she just lounges around all day and is the sweetest companion.

“Cleo loves her walks getting all giddy when she sees her harness. When on the walk she walks well and loves to have a sniff. One of Cleo’s biggest adjustments is getting used to unpredictability on walks, so as her person it is important you are always vigilant and able to gain Cleo’s attention when strangers are around especially any that may take her by surprise as this really worries her and she will become reactive.”

She is good with other dogs and is house trained and has not had a single accident since being in her foster home. She also travels really well in the car.

Cleo will need a calm and quiet home to continue her growth and to gain confidence. She would be best suited to be the only pet in the home and to live with children of 16+.
