A Sainsbury’s Local has opened this week in Tag Lane, Ingol.

It has been built in the car park of The Guild Merchant pub after a licence for a mini supermarket was granted by Preston Council’s licencing committee in August last year.

The shop is described as a “convenience store” which won’t offer all of the products of a supermarket but will offer a good variety of essentials.

Around 20-25 jobs have been created and the shop will support local charity, Tanterton Village Centre.

Why has it happened?

During construction, a spokesman for Sainsbury’s said: “We’re always looking for good locations for our stores and we thought Tag Lane would have a good footfall.”

Local reaction

Although many local residents are pleased at the new addition and have already visited, there was concern that another store could saturate the area and take local services and jobs away from the local community.
