Man shouted ‘I’m not afraid to go to prison’ before stabbing stepdad

Patryk Kowalski, 20, attacked Robert Bobowiak after he and Kowalski’s mum begged for his help to accompany them to hospital and translate for them due to one of the youngsters becoming ill on February 26.

Despite being jailed for 14 months after admitting wounding, he walked free as he has already served the sentence on remand.

Kowlaski, now of Boscow Crescent, St Helens, had refused to help and gone back to sleep on the sofa at their Preston home. When the family returned the victim tipped him off the couch and told him to “get up and find a job”.

Prosecuting at Preston’s Sessions House Court, Hanifa Patel said: “It was at that point the defendant went into kitchen, shouting: “I’m not afraid to go to prison” and got a knife.

The mother stood between the pair but the defendant continued, There was toing and froing resulting in the defendant stabbing him in the left thigh. Both children were in the lounge at the time, they were crying.”

The victim had 14 stitches to his leg.

In interview, Kowalski claimed it was “self defence” and said he had suffered abuse at his stepfather’s hands.

Recorder Shaw said: “You could easily have damaged his femoral artery which would almost certainly have resulted in his death.”
