Man, 80 killed in horror crash is named

A 80-year-old man who died in a road crash near Longridge has been named by police.

Ernest Robinson from Longridge was killed in an accident involving two vehicles close to the White Bull Pub on Preston Road in Alston at around 4.45pm on Tuesday.

A 25-year-old man from Longridge had been driving a Ford van when it collided with the 80-year-old’s green car.

Mr Robinson suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, say police.

The driver of the van suffered bruising. He was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and possession of a class A drug and is currently in custody.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the crash and anyone who can help can call 101.
