M61 northbound open again after car fire
The M61 northbound is now open after a crash and car fire.
It was closed this morning after between junction nine on the M61 and junction 30 on the M6.
Traffic caught up in the closure is being released past the scene in lane one but there are still delays of 20 minutes on the approach.
Fire crews are at the scene. .
A spokesman for North West Motorway Police said: “All drivers safely out and on the hard shoulder with highways.”
A motorist told the Post: “Traffic on the M61 was bumper to bumper approaching the junction with the M6 when I was traveling into work at 8.45am.”
Highways England says that recovery for the cars has been arranged and is en-route.
A spokesman said: “Please allow extra time for your journey.”
