The subway, which runs from D’Urton Lane to Eastway, will be shut “for the foreseeable future” say Lancashire County Council. A diversion is signposted.

From Monday (7 November) pedestrians will instead need to use the footpath on the northbound side of the A6.

The alternative route will be clearly signed, directing people towards local crossings on the A6 before they reach the roundabout – these are situated close to Parklands Drive and D’Urton Lane.

Local schools have been made aware of the situation.

A spokesperson for the county council said: “This diversion will be in place for the foreseeable future, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
