Love Lowther fund-raiser tops £250k

The Love Lowther fundraising campaign has topped £250,000 '“ and is set for a further boost from two performances next month.

Less than 80 tickets remain for a concert by musical theatre boy band Collabro in aid of the appeal towards refurbishment of Lowther Pavlion and Gardens.

The winners of Britain’s Got Talent 2014, will be giving a special preview performance of their UK tour on Sunday, February 21.

Later the same week, on Thursday, February 25, the Blackpool Variety branch of Equity, the actors’ trade union, is presenting a Variety Extravaganza, also to boost the appeal.

The show will be headlined by comedian Johnny Casson and feature a full programme including vocalists Carolynn May, Ken Morrell and Mike Sears, magician Brian Sefton, the Suzanne Roberts Dancers and compere Des Day.

Meanwhile, contributions to the Band of Names set to be etched on the proposed new glass atrium which will be a key part of the Lowther refurbishment, continue to flock in.

The latest have come from the Clifton Arms Hotel in Lytham, Fylde Coast Players and the St Annes Operatic Society and Lowther general manager Roger McCann said:

“It’s wonderful that the entertainment industry itself, as well as the local community, is lining up to support the Love Lowther campaign.

“All the artists in the shows on February 21 and 25 are donating their services so we should make in excess of £10,000 for the appeal.”

The total raised so far includes an anonymous donation of £100,000 made shortly before Christmas and architect Andy Wolfe of Creative Spark is curently putting together the design team to work on the plans.
