A mum-of-two from Longton is hoping to fundraise her way to Russia for life-changing treatment in her battle against multiple sclerosis.

And backing Elaine Dalgleish’s £40,000 campaign is her ‘amazing’ village community, with a committed fundraising team organising a series of charity events.

The 50-year-old Preston Royal Mail centre worker of more than 20 years, was diagnosed with the debilitating condition nearly four years ago.

In the last 12 months her health has deteriorated rapidly and after being told by her consultants there was no further help for her condition, Elaine decided to seek further opinions from medical teams around the world after hearing about specialist stem cell treatment available abroad.

Elaine has now been offered a glimmer of hope by doctors at the A.A Maximov department of hematology and cellular therapy in Moscow, who are willing to undertake pioneering stem cell treatment HSCT, an autologous hempatopoietic stem cell transplant.

Families, friends and businesses in Longton have now set about a mission to ‘Help Elaine beat MS’ and the fundraising continues tomorrow with a 'Zumbaclubathon' at Halls for All, in Moss Lane, Leyland.

Elaine, who has lived in the village for 24 years, said: “It has all been very overwhelming.

“My husband Rod and I had made the decision to go for the treatment at the end of last year, we were ready to remortgage our house to do it.

“The whole village has been absolutely amazing, so supportive.

“We’re very lucky and I cannot get over how kind people have been.”

The Zumba event is being sponsored by a number of local Zumba and Clubbercise instructors including Emelina James, Lydia Dickinson, Louise Ross from Phyizical / Phyizikidz and Heather Singleton from UpFit and Sharron Browne. Entry price for the event is £10.

The charity events are being organised by Elaine's friends Mackenzie Young and Emma Sumner.
