A fund-raising campaign has been launched in the town for a new bike for the 13-year-old.

Declan is recovering in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

His family posted a Facebook message yesterday morning saying: “Update on our Declan. After an mri scan and more x-rays today he has three stable fractures in his spine and two fractures one at the front and one at the back of his pelvis.

“We’re unsure at this stage as to whether or not his pelvis fractures require surgery but he is going into theatre at some point tomorrow to have a large wound on his back cleaned and stitched.

“No head or neck damage to report which is great news. It just may be a long road to recovery for the lad.”

Declan, who lives on Fox Lane, attends Leyland St Mary’s Catholic High School.

He was airlifted to hospital after being hit by a car at around 3.20pm.

He was comforted at the scene by Tracie Broxton, of Leyland, whose husband phoned the police.
