Lancashire's Grey Mare Inn wins Best Pub Food at Thwaites Hospitality Awards

A Lancashire pub known for its panoramic moorland views and hearty homemade dishes has been named winner of the Best Pub Food category at this year’s Thwaites Hospitality Awards.

The Grey Mare Inn beat competition from nearly 200 pubs across Thwaites’ landlord and tenanted estate to take the title at the awards ceremony held at North Lakes Hotel and Spa in Penrith.

The annual event, now in its seventh year, celebrates excellence across 13 categories including Best Pint, Community Hero and Best Investment.

Winners were chosen following a detailed judging process involving interviews, mystery visits and customer feedback.

Each will now enjoy a two-night, all-expenses-paid trip away, with previous winners travelling to cities such as Rome, Riga and Budapest.

Described as one of the highest pubs in England, the Grey Mare Inn sits on the Lancashire moors and is known for its relaxed atmosphere, dog-friendly welcome and sweeping views stretching to the Ribble Estuary, the coast and even Blackpool Tower on clear days.

Judges praised the pub for its “high quality” and “perfectly executed” dishes, a strong menu at a “fantastic price point”, and a team whose passion remains clear after 27 years.

Andrew Buchanan, Director of Pubs and Brewing at Thwaites, said: “Behind every great pub is a team of people who care deeply about what they do - and these awards are our way of saying thank you.

“It’s about recognising the passion, the hard work, and the moments of magic our teams create every day.”

“This year’s finalists have gone above and beyond, and we couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve achieved.”

The awards were sponsored by Cruzcampo (Heineken UK) and Thwaites Brewery, with support from partners including Coca-Cola, Stockchek, Lloyds Bank, Sky and Cask Marque.
