Knife suspect sought after attempted robbery

Police have released CCTV footage of a knife-wielding suspect after an attempted robbery at a pharmacy in Preston.

The incident happened at around 3.15pm on Thursday, February 9 when a man, who is thought to have walked up Knowles Street, entered New Hall Lane Pharmacy on New Hall Lane. He brandished a large knife and jumped over the counter, threatening staff members who were working in the store at the time.

The staff feared for their safety and ran away from the man. A builder who was working upstairs at the time chased him out of the store and down Arnhem Road. The man was last seen running towards Fishwick Parade.

Detectives are keen to speak to the man captured in the CCTV footage in connection with the incident.

DC Justin Singleton of Preston CID said: “This is a shocking incident which happened in broad daylight in a busy shop and it has left the members of staff feeling extremely scared. The fact that staff members were threatened with a large knife during the incident makes it all the more frightening.

“If anyone has any information about what happened I would urge them to get in touch. We are particularly keen to talk anyone who was near to the scene at the time of the incident who may have seen the man in the CCTV footage.”
