Investigation launched after blaze at Cleveleys' charity shop

Three engines raced to the scene of the fire at the rear of the Cancer Research shop on Victoria Road West at around 12.30am on May 18.

Crews arrived to find a fire "well alight" on the ground floor storeroom of the shop and spent more than three hours at the scene.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire Service said: "We received reports of a small fire at the Cancer Research UK shop in Cleveleys but when we arrived we discovered a much larger fire and called for extra engines.

"The fire was well alight in the ground floor storeroom at the rear of the building.

"We used four breathing apparatus, a hose reel and a jet to combat the fire.

"At this stage we are unable to comment on the possible cause of the fire and an investigation is on-going."

Nobody was injured during the incident although the storeroom suffered significant fire damage, confirmed fire services.

A joint police and fire service investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire.
