An investigation has been launched after several fires were started in a former commercial premises in Preston, say fire fighters.

Fire engines from Preston were called out to the building at the junction of Moor Lane and Ashmoor Street at around 1.40am on Tuesday, April 24.

Crews say they immediately set about locating the source of the fires which were spread across the three storey building.

Watch Manager Mark Woodward said: "We were called to a building where numerous fires had been lit.

"We committed fire fighters in breathing apparatus and used a thermal imaging camera to locate the fires which we then extinguished using hose reels.

"We cleared the building of smoke using fans.

"Teams are now working with the police to establish who started these fires and we will be examining CCTV.

"We are also liaising with the council to ensure that the building is secured to prevent any further incidents."

Nobody was injured in the fire although the building suffered some fire damage.

Crews remained at the scene for around an hour.
