Inspirational teacher Mary says farewell

Mrs Mary Cookson, deputy Head of Broughton-in-Amounderness CE Primary School has retired at Christmas following a long, successful and inspirational career.

Garstang County Primary School was the first to benefit from her expertise.

She then spent a short sabbatical raising her children Lyndsey and Christopher, during which time she worked part time at John Cross CE Primary School at Bilsborrow and Whitechapel County Primary School.

She returned to teaching full time at Longridge CE Primary School, where she stayed for 18 years, being an integral member of the church and school community.

“Her final post was of deputy headteacher at Broughton where she quickly established herself as a well-loved, enthusiastic and extremely caring member of staff.

“She is loved by the children, parents and staff alike.

“Her specialism with children with additional educational needs is said to have been outstanding, with numerous families in the area experiencing the benefit of her skill and determination to provide help and support.

“She will be greatly missed by our school community, and we wish her all the very best for the future,” said Mrs P Clow and Mrs G Simpson, senior managers at Broughton School.
