'Incredible' - Lancashire glamping site named one of UK's best for families- for the second time

The site has been ‘popping up’ for four years in a tranquil corner of South Ribble.

A Lancashire glamping site has been named among the very best in the country - for the second time.

Puddleduck Glamping offers three large bell tents in Much Hoole which have double beds for adults, along with a fully-equipped kitchenette, hot showers, campfires and a pizza oven.

“It’s perfect for people who’ve never been camping before” said Carly Nelson, who set up the site with joiner husband James in a field at the back of their home four years ago.

Since then, they’ve gone on to make the top 10 list for family-friendly UK glamping sites twice, according to camping, glamping and caravanning site Pitchup.com.

With a child-friendliness score of 8.8, Puddleduck Glamping came in overall seventh place, based on real customer reviews. One recent review said: “Everything was perfect, host was a great guy too. I liked it that much I’ve booked again for August and can’t wait to be back. Chickens were cool just wondering around- our little boy loved it and all at a bargain price too. Bathroom was nice and clean and the shower is great, kitchen area had everything you could need.Keep up the good work mate it’s a great little place.”

“It’s all down to my husband”, said Carly, a hairdresser. “He’s the one who’s really driven everything behind the scenes and does all the meet and greet stuff. I do the social media and bookings.”

The ‘pop up’ site is allowed to open for 60 days per year and offers everthing guests need, apart from towels and food. Carly said: “If you’ve never been camping before, then come and try it. You don’t really need to bring much and it’s not as rugged as camping.”

There are children’s toys and play equipment on site, and it is also dog-friendly, but dogs must be kept on leads at all times.

“It’s incredible. I didn’t think we’d stand out - we’re just a small family-run site with three tents”, said Carly. “I find it amazing that people come to my back garden and have a wail of a time. I love being able to offer something to people who might not have this kind of space in their own homes.”
