Sgt John Wiggans from Preston Police said: “We, along with Martyn’s family, are getting very worried for his welfare and state of mind given the circumstances of his disappearance.

“Our priority is to find him and so if anyone may have taken his bike or knows someone who has recently got a bike like this that they think may be stolen, we want to speak to them.

“I would like to reassure people that this isn’t about prosecuting the person who might have taken it but about finding out the bike’s location which may lead us to Martyn.”

Mr Cunliffe is described as white, 6ft 2in tall, of medium build with shoulder-length light brown hair. He was wearing a sweatshirt with a white or light logo, grey Adidas jogging pants and black trainers with white soles.

Sgt Wiggans added: “If anyone might have seen Martyn on the night he went missing or since, I would ask them to get in contact with us at their earliest opportunity.

“Similarly, if Martyn himself sees this appeal I would urge him to speak to a family member or ring the police immediately so we know he is okay.”

Mr Cunliffe has links to Preston and Warrington.
