Ice star figures out right royal wedding

For the 27-year-old, who grew up in Clayton-le-Woods, was marrying her skating partner David King.

Their wedding was held at St Chad’s Church in Whittle-le-Woods, before they travelled to Hoghton Tower in a carriage pulled by white horses called Will and Kate.

Their wedding breakfast was served in the banquet hall, where King James I famously knighted a loin of beef , and they tucked into sirloin beef.

Stacey said: “It was in a castle so everyone said it was like a fairytale wedding.

“Because my last name is King now, a lot of the wedding was themed on kings. All the decorations were gold crowns and the table names were all British kings.”

Stacey, a former pupil at Leyland St Mary’s Catholic High School, met David in 2003 and they started skating together.

They became a couple in late 2004 and love blossomed.

They were engaged in 2010, when David, now 32, popped the question at the Olympic Games in Vancouver.

Stacey said: “It was our first Olympic Games and it was the closing ceremony. We were on the balcony of our apartment in the Olympic village.

“We were just looking out on the balcony when David proposed to me. I wasn’t expecting it at the time but I said yes.”

They did not start making plans to get married straight away, as they were busy training, travelling and spent time living in Poland and the USA.

But last year they finally set the date and booked Hoghton Tower.

Stacey said: “It was a beautiful setting.

“We looked at a lot of different places and couldn’t decide on anywhere, but as soon as we saw Hoghton Tower, we both said yes straight away.”

Stacey wore a unique hand-made dress by an Italian designer and was given away by her mum Lynne, while her two older brothers were ushers.

At Hoghton Tower, the happy couple and their guests enjoyed a brief talk by Hoghton Tower’s historian, singing waiters, an a capella group, garden games, vintage tea party and other activities.

Stacey said: “It was a really beautiful, magical day, something we had waited a long time for. It was everything we dreamed of.”

After spending a lot of time travelling, they have decided to wait until September for their honeymoon in South Africa.

The couple have competed all over the world for Team GB, including at the Olympics in Vancouver and Sochi.

They are 10-time British champions and have numerous international medals.

More recently, they have been performing on cruise ships in the Caribbean, Asia and Australia.

“It was something totally different to what we had ever done before, but we wanted to try it. We enjoyed it,” Stacey said.

Stacey and David are now living in Cumbria and would one day like to have children.

They will start rehearsing next month for Hot Ice, an ice show in Blackpool running from July to September.

And they have not ruled out a return to competing.

Stacey said: “We never say never because it’s something we have always loved and really want to go back to, but it depends how it goes.”

She thanked fans for the cards and messages of congratulations on their marriage.
