‘I was hoping for tickets to Robbie concert but got a husband instead’

Emma Sanderson was secretly hoping that Robbie Williams was going to entertain her back in 2013 - but instead she got a proposal.

Not from Robbie of course, but from her partner of seven years, David Pearson.

She explains: “It was Christmas Day and I came downstairs to a hamper with all of my favourite things in.

“I was hoping for Robbie Williams tickets, and at the bottom of the hamper was an envelope.

“I thought ‘Yes - my tickets!’ but then David asked me to turn around.

“He was on one knee and asking me to marry him.

“After screaming for a couple of minutes, I obviously said yes, and found that the envelope was a ‘Merry Christmas to my Fiancé’ card.”

Emma, a personal assistant from Goosnargh, met David, a British Aerospace analyst from Thornley, at Longridge High School.

“We started dating in our final year,” Emma says.

“David woo’d me in German class by throwing things from his pencil case at me!

“Our German never progressed very much!

“We shared first dates at the cinema and Franco’s Italian.”

And after nine years together, the happy couple, who live in Longridge, were married at St Lawrence’s Church on May 16, followed by a reception at the Inn at Whitewell.

“The day was perfect,” Emma adds. “We had decorated the church with bunting to match our vintage theme, and the Inn at Whitewell had been filled with bunting and flowers.

“When the congregation was asked if anyone knew of any reason the we couldn’t marry, our two-year-old nephew cheered, and the whole church was in uproar!”

After the couple’s first dance to One Direction’s Little Things (still no appearance from Robbie!) the dance floor was full for the rest of the night.

Their honeymoon included a cruise around the Caribbean before a stay in Orlando, Florida.
