The 21-year-old said: “It was so scary having a near death experience. The incident left me unable to use my arm for a month and I still have complications to this day.

“But I was utterly determined not to let it defeat me and I’m absolutely thrilled I managed to still come out with a first-class honours in my degree.”

Despite the horror of the incident, Tegan refused to let it derail her final year of studies and she continued attending classes, submitting assignments and was an integral part of group projects throughout her recovery.

She added: “I’m so excited and glad my hard work and resilience have finally paid off. Coming back to uni after being electrocuted was so hard but I was determined to succeed, even if it was with one arm!”

The former Blackpool Sixth Form College pupil, who has followed in her mum’s footsteps by studying at the Preston-based university, has grasped work placement opportunities and already made a name for herself in the industry.

She set up a TikTok and Instagram page called The Journalism Diaries, which chronicled her university and trainee journalist journey. This grew quickly and resulted in her gaining an invite to appear on BBC’s The One Show after one of her posts went viral.

Tegan, who is partially deaf, gained a placement at local station Coastal Radio and progressed from ad hoc content creator to hosting her own two-hour radio programme within a few months.

She was one of 4,500 students who graduated from the University of Lancashire during the week-long celebrations.
