Honours for cheese maestros

​Lancashire cheesemakers have walked away with an armful of medals at the annual British Cheese Awards.

A total of 334 medals were handed at the Royal Bath and West Show.

​Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses, based at Inglewhite, near Preston, ​came away with a main award for best terriorial non-cheddar for their Rothbury Red.

​Butlers also won best show dressed cheese for its Farmhouse Red Leicester.

Other medals included: a silver medal for Trotter Hill Tasty, a bronze for Tasty Lancashire, a gold for Farmhouse Creamy. a gold for Beacon Blue, a bronze for Farmhouse Double Gloucester, a bronze for Blacksticks Blue, and a silver for Blacksticks Blue goat cheese​​.

​Dewlay ​of Garstang​ won a gold medal for its Crumbly Lancashire.​​​

G​oosnargh-based G​reenfields Dairy Products ​was also awarded a host of medals, including bronze for Crumbly ​L​ancashire​, bronze for Grace’s Goats, bronze for White Cheshire, silver for Cheshire, bronze for Red Cheshire, and silver for Tasty Lancashire.

​​Singletons​ of ​Longridge​ took a ​bronze ​for Grandma​ Singletons Lancashire, while Mrs Kirkhams ​of Goosnargh netted a gold for its Traditional Lancashire.

Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses owner Gill Hall said today: “It’s very nice to come away with such a great haul of medals and special awards from the show.

“It’s very satisfying for all our staf and for our customers.”

The Champion Cheese was Rosary Garlic & Herb Goats Cheese made by the Hartington Cheese Company, which is based in Derbyshire.
