Hollywood comes to Hough Lane

Organisers have just made the announcement and are urging folk to let their imaginations run wild.

Last year’s Superheroes theme will be a hard act to fol low. The procession featured

a host of instantly recognisable characters such as Spiderman, Superman and Super Woman, making it arguably the best ever.

But bosses of the family fun-filled spectacular – taking place on Saturday, June 17 – are working hard to top

that when Hollywood comes to Hough Lane.

They want to see Leyland awash on the day with the likes of Laurel and Hardy, Scarlett O’Hara, Chewbacca, ET … the list is endless.

“Bigger and better,” said Martin Carlin, of the Leyland Town Team, which organises the festival, as he looked towards this year’s event.

“Last year was a great success.

“Obviously we’re trying not to digress too far away from what we did last year – don’t mend it if it’s not broken.

“It’s something slightly different on a generic theme.”

He added: “To my knowledge last year was the best.

“There’s obviously going to be people who think it was better back in the day, but from what I witnessed it was bigger and better by far. The walking procession last year, I’ve never seen so many people. I didn’t realise there were so many people in the South Ribble area. The streets were lined with people.”

He said the Films and

Movies theme provided a lot to go at.

“It’s all about interacting with the children,” he said. “As well as the children, you get the parents and grand parents. We’re hoping the Films and Movies theme will work. There’s a heck of a lot of options open. Bigger and better – that’s what we’re hoping for.”

Organisers have pulled off “a major coup” in attracting a popular local band.

Martin explained: “Leyland Brass Band will be heading the walking procession – that’s a major coup to be honest because these guys are kind of professional.”

Worden Park is the venue again for a whole host of family entertainment.

Councillor Phil Smith, cabinet member for regeneration and leisure, said: “Plans for this year’s Leyland Festival are starting to take shape and we are absolutely thrilled with what’s in store for those coming along to enjoy the occasion. The theme of Movies is really exciting and I’m looking forward to seeing what characters people come as on the big day. Though there are many to choose from, the highlight of Leyland Festival for me will be the unveiling of the 14th truck in our Truck Trail.

Pupils from more than 20 local schools have taken on the STEMFirst challenge to design a truck and we cannot wait to see the exciting designs they have come up with.”
