Girls praised after school stranger scare

The girls, aged 10 and 11, were on their way home from playing netball at Moss Side Primary.

The vehicle is thought to have had a “Chips Away” sign on it. The scared youngsters ran for help and were taken back to school.

Janis Burdin, head at the Paradise Lane school, said: “Their reaction was brilliant. They did exactly the right thing and sought help from the nearest adult, a man working on an electricity cable and a parent, who brought them back to school. We are very proud of their responsible behaviour.”

Police later issued a warning to parents to be on their guard.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “Two girls were walking from Paradise Lane to Cocker Lane past Blaydike Moss. They were at the start of a footpath and there was a vehicle parked on the opposite side of the road. The girls said a man in the car beckoned to them something like ‘come here’. The girls screamed and ran off.”

The vehicle is described as small white or silvery with roof rails. The man is described as having brown hair and being less than 50-years-old.
