Get on your bike for Ribble Valley Cycling Festival

Cycling enthusiasts are invited to get on their bikes for the first Ribble Valley Cycling Festival.

The festival, from tomorrow to June 14, will feature a host of activities, including family bike rides, a pop-up velodrome, a bike-powered concert and an evening with cycling celebrity Ned Boulting.

Starting on Friday, with a free bike clinic, there will be giveaways and refreshments in the Ribble Valley Borough Council car park in Railway View, Clitheroe, from noon to 2 pm, followed by An Evening with Ned Boulting at the Grand, Clitheroe, at 7.45 pm.

Events will take place throughout the week at the Green Jersey in Taylor Street, starting on Sunday with a live big screening of Sir Bradley Wiggins’ attempt to break the world hour cycling record at the Olympic Velodrome.

From 6pm to 9pm on Friday June 12 there will be a 
bike-powered concert featuring Good Foxy, The Ragamuffins and The Remedy at the Clitheroe Castle Bandstand, while on Saturday June 13 there will be numerous events in Clitheroe, including a mini-velodrome at the Edisford Road Car Park from noon to 3 pm.

Ribble Valley Borough Council leader Stuart Hirst said: “As well as hosting Stage Two of the 2015 Aviva Tour of Britain in September, we are also holding the borough’s inaugural cycling festival featuring a week of exciting and engaging activities for people of all ages.

“The borough is fast becoming a hotspot for cycling enthusiasts due to its beautiful and varied landscape, and visitors to the festival can be assured of a warm Ribble Valley welcome.”
