The four are amongst eight newly-commissioned Deputy Lord Lieutenants who took office last week.
They will join the existing team of deputies who help and support the Lord-Lieutenant Lord Shuttleworth KCVO, in his duties as Her Majesty The Queen’s representative in the county.
The new deputies are: businessman and renowned sculptor Charles Hadcock of Bleasdale, near Garstang;
Lancashire’s current High Sheriff Dr James Barry Johnson of Bilsborrow, near Preston, who is chairman of World Horse Welfare and a former President of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons;
Carl Hankinson, of Longridge, a long-serving County Commissioner for the West Lancashire County Scouts and a regional manager for NatWest Bank.;
Suzana Edwards of Ribchester, a business woman and fund-raiser for The Prince’s Trust.
The Office of Lord-Lieutenant dates from the reign of Henry VIII, when the holder was responsible for the maintenance of local defence.
They could now find themselves:
• arranging visits by Members of The Royal family and escorting Royal visitors.
• Presenting medals and awards on behalf of Her Majesty (such as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise).
• Joining in civic, voluntary and social activities with the Lieutenancy.
• Liaising with local units of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army, Royal Air Force and their associated cadet forces.
• Leading the local magistracy by chairing the Advisory Committee on Justices of the Peace.
