Former Little Chef turned Thorpey's chippy site off A6 in Lancashire will be demolished

It used to be a Little Chef and then a fish and chip shop.

Plans for a new mini-commercial park featuring three units at the former Thorpeys Chippy site off the A6, in Forton, have been approved.

Thorpeys Chippy was closed in 2023 after 15 years of trading. Before Thorpeys, the restaurant operated as a Little Chef between 1970 and 2008.

Wyre Council approved initial plans to demolish the dilapidated Thorpeys building and replace it with two new buildings, which would be split up into four commercial units, in March 2026.

A new planning application was lodged in June, seeking amendments to the previously approved plans. The revised proposal retains the two buildings originally agreed, but reduces the number of commercial units from four to three.

These new plans have now been approved by the council, and work will now begin on constructing the new units. It isn’t currently known which businesses will take over the commercial units.

Planning officer H Hale concluded: “Overall, the proposal is acceptable and accords with the development plan and NPPF (August 2026). Planning permission is therefore recommended for approval, subject to appropriate conditions.”
