Fire crews shut part of Leyland town centre to tackle flat fire

Fire crews have tackled a flat fire in Leyland town centre this morning (Wednesday, October 21).

Police closed part of Hough Lane, between the Churchill Way roundabout and Alice Avenue, whilst fire crews worked at the scene.

The Incident Commander at the scene told the Post that they were dealing with a chimney fire in a flat above a picture framing shop.

He confirmed that no-one has been injured.

A fire service spokesman added: "At 8.34am, a fire engine from Leyland, a fire engine from Bamber Bridge and a fire engine and aerial ladder platform from Preston attended a building fire in Hough Lane, Leyland.

"The fire involved a chimney located in a flat above a commercial property.

"Firefighters extinguished the fire with equipment including the aerial ladder platform as well as a hose reel, Nimbus nozzle and damage control pack.

"They then utilised a thermal imaging camera to check the scene was safe and the fire had not spread.

"Fire crews were in attendance for approximately three hours."

Businesses remained open along Hough Lane, including those near the scene of the fire, but the road had been closed to traffic at its eastern end.
